2004 Junior Invitational Trail
Patoka Reservoir - June 13, 2004
The second stop on the 2004 Indiana BASS Federation / Jay Gearld Memorial Junior Invitational Trail was this past weekend at Patoka Reservoir near Jasper, IN. The day started out warm and calm with the temperatures hovering around 75 degrees when the tournament started. It warmed up to the high 80's later in the day with the constant threat of severe thunderstorms lingering. As a matter of fact, a funnel cloud that producing hail, heavy rain, and high winds, passed over the lake on Saturday afternoon during practice.

Stan Knies, Tournament Director (Center of back row) and Patoka Valley B/M volunteers. |
With reports of some short fish being caught most of the day, only four juniors managed to bring keeper fish to the scales. Finishing first was Nick Krahn. He had one fish that weighed 3.0 lbs. Nick also won the big bass award and a new B&B custom rod donated by the Patoka Valley Bassmasters. Finishing second was Mark Gibbs with one fish that weighed 2.6 lbs. In third place was Ryan Rhodehamel with one fish at 2.2 lbs., and in fourth place was Ben Otte with one fish at 2.0 lbs.

I want thank all of the parents and adults for taking their time to allow these juniors to participate. I want to give a special thanks to the volunteers of the Patoka Valley Bassmasters and Zone 4 Director, Stan Knies, for helping operate the tournament. Stan was the Tournament Director. Also thanks to Mary Gibbs and Fred Felix for helping. Their dedication to our youth made the tournament a success. I want to especially thank all of the sponsors for their donations of prizes for the kids.
See you at the next tournament, July 18th, at Brookville Reservoir, Garr Hill ramp.
Sincerely,
Ken Gibbs
