2004 Junior Invitational Trail
Brookville Reservoir - July 18, 2004

The third stop on the 2004 Indiana BASS Federation / Jay Gearld Memorial Junior Invitational Trail was at Brookville Reservoir. The day started out with overcast skies and the temperature hovered around the 60 degree mark. It warmed up to the low 80's later in the day and we had bright sunshine. All in all, it was great weather for the anglers, but not necessarily for the fishing.

With reports of some short bass being caught, and a few missed hook-ups with some very aggressive muskie, only two juniors managed to bring keeper fish to the scales. Finishing first was Jason Rueger. He had one fish that weighed 1.4 lbs. at 15" long and second was Ben Otte with one fish that weighed 1.4 lbs. at 14-1/4" long. The big bass award went to Jason because he had the longer tie breaking fish. Both anglers were awarded the first place score of 150 points.

I want to thank all of the parents and adults for taking their time to allow these juniors to participate. I want to thank Billy Wayson, Zone 3 Director, for being the Tournament Director and also to the Connersville Bass Club for helping operate the tournament. Also thanks to Mary Gibbs and Haskel & Carol Gibbs for helping. Haskel & Carol also supplied, at their cost, hotdogs and chips for everyone to eat at the end of the tournament. Also thanks to state team members Dewey Allen and Darin Jorg for helping take some of the juniors out fishing. The dedication of all of these folks to our youth fishing program made the tournament a success.
