2006 Junior Invitational Trail
Lake Manitou - May 6, 2006
The first stop on the 2006 Indiana Bass Federation / Jay Gearld Memorial Junior Invitational Trail was held at Lake Manitou. The day started out cool and clear with the temperatures hovering in the mid 40's. It warmed up to the low 70's later in the day with sunny conditions.
First let me start off by giving my many thanks to some volunteers. They are Cory Thompson, Zone 1 Director, Mike Goins, and Doug Bradley, IBF President. Their help and EXCITEMENT made the day for the kids a great one! Cory has helped out with the northern tournament for several years now and when he says he is going to do something for the kids, he goes far and beyond anyone's expectations. This dedication to our youth helps make this tournament series a success.
Special thanks to Denise Thompson for supplying donuts, juice, milk, and water for all the kids and parents in the morning as well as Rochester Meats & Deli for graciously catering lunch after the tournament for everyone. I can't thank you all enough!
Finishing first was Jacob Wheeler. He had four fish that weighed 6.0 lbs. Finishing second was Cameron Tusing with two fish that weighed 5.4 lbs. In third place was Brad Williams with two fish at 3.8 lbs. A fourth place tie, Blake Castle with two fish at 3.0 lbs. and Tyler Pendygraft with two fish at 3.0 lbs. Camron Tusing won the big bass award with a 4.2 lb fish. Congratulations to all the juniors on a great effort!

Thanks to all the kids for helping support the "Adopt an Angler" program and local food shelters though this tournament trails entry system. These items help those less fortunate then us.
I want thank all of the adults and parents for taking their time to allow these juniors to participate. Especially folks like Dennis Waldron, chairman of the Junior B/M of Lafayette. Also to gentlemen like Mr. Tom Moore and Mr. Len Paeth, who take the time to pull a boat around the state to take their grandsons fishing.
As always, THANKS to the sponsors of the Junior Invitational Trail. These folks have given of their time, products, and money to help the youth in our state. Lets support them every chance we get!
One other bit of exciting news for the junior anglers is that from this tournament, two anglers qualified for the TBF Junior Championship this summer which will be held in conjunction with the FLW Championship. Qualifying in the 15-18 age group was Jacob Wheeler. Qualifying in the 11-14 age group was Tyler Pendygraft. GOOD LUCK to both of these anglers when they travel to Lake Neely Henry in Alabama this August!
Sincerely,
Ken Gibbs,
I. B. F. Youth Director
