IBF/Jay Gearld Junior Invitational Trail

Fish-Off

Glenn Flint Lake, Sept. 12, 2009

The final event of the IBF Junior Invitational Trail was held at Glenn Flint Lake. This was the Fish-Off event. All the qualifiers from the previous four tournaments are vying to be the IBF Junior State Champion and a spot to represent Indiana at the National Guard Junior World Championship in 2010.

We had great weather with bright sunny skies. Although there was not a lot of fish weighed in, it appears the juniors had a very good time. With nine junior anglers, there were 11 bass weighed in for a total of 27 lbs. Winner of the tournament and becoming the 2009 IBF Junior State Champion was Greg Zellers with four bass for a total weight of 11.01 lbs. Congratulations Greg!

Big bass weighed in at 6.22 lbs which was caught by 9 year old Ben Messersmith. Check out the photo of his huge fish! Congratulations on a great fish Ben!

Qualifying to represent Indiana at the 2010 National Guard Junior World Championship in the 15-18 year old age group is Greg Zellers. He will be traveling to Atlanta, Ga. next summer to participate in that junior tournament during the FLW’s Forrest Wood Cup event. (Unfortunately we did not have any qualifiers in the 11-14 age group.)

Thanks to all our great sponsors that made this past season possible!

I personally would like to thank Mary Gibbs for volunteering her time to help out all this year. Thanks to Shawn Kertai and Troy Pendyrgraft for being volunteer boat captains. Also thanks to State Team members Matt Bell, Phillip Durach, and Allen Boyd.

THANK YOU!

See ya’ on the water,

Ken Gibbs
