2008 Junior Trail,
Maxinkuckee
First off let again say Happy Mother's Day to all the moms and grandma's that were at the tournament routing there kids and grand kids on. We made sure that all attending moms received a gift of a flower and had flowers for all the kids to take home to the mothers that could not be there.
The second stop on the 2008 IBF Junior Invitational Trail was May 10th at Maxinkuckee. The day started out with temps hovering in the low 50's but eventually rose to the low 70's with partly cloudy skies. It was really a nice day for the event and for catching fish!
We had 25 junior anglers participate. From those anglers we had 63 fish weighed in that involved 9 "five fish" limits. Wow!
The final outcome had Issac Hartsburg coming out on top with a five fish limit weighing 8.37 lbs. Second place went to 7 year old Hunter Paton with five fish at 8.08 lbs. In third was Nate Sanders with 7.91 lbs. Fourth was 7 year old Brooke Kertai with five fish at 7.85 lbs. And rounding out the top five was Haley Paton with five fish at 7.81 lbs. As you can see, the weights were very close. The total weight for the tournament was 96.2 lbs with smallmouth bass making up about 90% of the fish weighed in. Big Bass of the tournament went to Nate Sanders with a 2.19 lb. fish.
Qualifying for the year end Fish-Off was Damon Collins in the 15-18 age group, Issac Hartsburg in the 11-14 age group, and Hunter Paton in the 10 & under age group. Each of these junior anglers now has the opportunity to fish to be our Indiana State Junior Champion in August on Glenn Flint Lake.

As usual I would like to take a moment to thank everyone involved with the tournament. First and foremost, the parents and grandparents of the junior anglers. They are the folks that allow there kids to participate. Second to Corey Thompson and Mike Goins. These two gentlemen have always been there to help when the tournament trail comes north. Corey also supplied lunch for everyone after the tournament. Also thanks to Mr. Bob Palmer for the use of his property for the awards and lunch portion of the tournament. Also thanks to Kevin Kersey for helping with the weigh in and cook out.
Also a great THANK YOU to all of the sponsors of the tournament trail;
Indiana Bass federation & Members, Ranger Boats, Evinrude, Yamaha, Lowrance, Minn Kota, Solar Bat, Castrol, Wal-Mart, Chevy, Renfro Productions, Dick's Sporting Goods, The Outdoorsman Sport Shop, Hawg Sticker Baits, Touchdown Lures, BassIndy.com
Please visit these fine sponsors and thank them for their help. Without them we could not do the things we can for the juniors.
I look forward to seeing all the juniors at the next tournament scheduled for June 14th at Patoka Reservoir's Painters Creek ramp.
Good fishing,
Ken Gibbs
