Fellow Federation Anglers,
The
Indiana Bass Federation Zone 1 District 3 Top 8 was held May 17 and 18 on Lake
Tippecanoe. The pre-tournament thoughts were that the bedding bass
were going to be prevalent due to the full moon looming on Monday. Mother
Nature threw a curve ball, sending the water temperatures down to the upper 50's
and sending in gale force winds to contend with on both days.
Day One started with overcast skies and rain persisted for
about the first tree hours. Sunny skies prevailed the rest of the day with
25 to 30 mile per hour winds that made main lake fishing difficult.
Anglers found the fish, in channels, flats, and break lines. At the
conclusion of the Day One weigh-in, 131 fish weighing in at 233.54 lbs was
brought to the scales. On the team standings, Strike
Zone held first place with 28 fish weighed in at 44.31 lbs. Ye
Olde Tackle Shop weighed in 21 fish for a total of 43.22. The Northern
Bass Anglers and Indiana Bass Masters followed with 3rd and
fourth.
Steve Roth, Ye Olde Tackle Shop, led the individual standings
on day one with a 5 fish limit weighing in at 11.13 lbs. Greg Church was a close
second with 10.92 lbs. Big Bass honors on day 1 went to
Terry Schoettmer of Northern Bass Anglers with a 4.36 lber.
Terry collected $340.00 for the big
bass pot and a Gator Grip rule for big bass of the tournament.
Day two started with sunny
skies and dropping temperatures. Winds increased during the day with gust
up to 30 miles per hour. Water temps that had been in the low 60's had now
dropped to 58 degrees on the main lake. But again, out
Federation anglers found the fish and weighed in 123 fish for a total of 201.63
lbs. The team standings shuffled on day 2 with Ye Olde Tackle Shop taking
team top honors with a 52 fish total weighing in at 101.70 lbs for the two
days. Strike Zone was 2nd, Northern Bass Anglers was 3rd, and
Indiana Bass Masters took 4th place honors.
Individual honors went to
Steve Roth with a two day total of 22.49 lbs. Big Bass honors on day two
went to Ron Crawford of Strike Zone with a 3.59 lber. Listed below is the
anglers that will be representing Zone 1 District 3 in the state finals at
Mississinewa Lake in September.

Attached is the complete listing of teams and anglers that participated
in the tournament. The Indiana Bass Masters who hosted the tournament wish
to thank, Charlie Lovely for being the tournament director and worked very
hard and getting the job done, Ray Gardiner, Ron Greer, and Dave Shockley
of the Indiana Bass masters for volunteering both days, and Columbia City Bass
Masters for providing workers as well. Other members of the team
pitched in to get Pie Eyed Petey's really assisted in this tournament by
providing a pontoon for use as a starter boat, and they also put a large tank on
board to transport fish back to the main lake at the conclusion of each
day. Many members assisted in the running of a successful Top
8 tournament. Thanks go to the Indiana Bass Federation for providing the
Gator Grip Measuring boards to the winners in the different
categories. I would hope that the results could be posted on the IBF
website for viewing.
Cordially,
Nils King
President, Indiana Bass
Masters.
