The Indiana angler is two tournaments (two Majors) into his rookie season on the FLW Tour, thanks to his victory at last year’s TBF National Championship, and finds himself in 13th place in the Angler of the Year (AOY) standings. Short of a victory or even a Top-10 finish, he couldn’t have asked for a better start to his season.

“So far, it’s been great,” said the 29-year-old construction worker from Salem, Ind. “I’ve had pretty good finishes. It’s been a good year. Both tournaments so far have fit my style of fishing.”

His victory at the TBF allowed him the option of an entry fees-paid spot in the Tour Majors as well as use of a tow vehicle and a fully-loaded Ranger boat. He also receives a travel stipend to cover fuel expenses. Now that he’s gotten a taste of the Tour, he’s making efforts to see if he can make it work on his own dime in 2013.

“I really want to do it next year,” he added. “I want to be able to fish the Tour again. In order to do that, I’m going to need to find sponsors. That’s something I’m working on as well.”

He came out of the gates with a 14th-place finish at the Lake Hartwell Major and took 49th at the Table Rock Lake Major, earning $22,500 in the process.

“I was a little upset with Table Rock,” he said. “I had my opportunities to do a lot better and was on the right pattern to do well. That’s fishing. You learn a little bit and hopefully do better at the next one.

“So far, I’ve just fished the way I would at home. I know there’s other ways to catch fish. These lakes that we’re fishing are so big and there are so many different types of patterns that’ll catch fish.”

Other than a few days of scouting at Beaver Lake and a little bit of time at Kentucky Lake, he’s seeing all the fisheries on the schedule for the first time, which seems to suit him well.

“The lakes here in Indiana are so small and so heavily pressured, there’s no going out and actually running a pattern,” he said. “You can’t do that here. That’s what’s been nice about these other lakes. There’s so many fish in them that you can figure out a pattern and actually run new water in a tournament and have confidence that there are fish there.”

58 of the best Anglers and Co-Anglers in Indiana began their Trail fishing season at 7:40 AM. The sky was partly cloudy but the rain held off. The temperatures were little cooler than the record heat recorded earlier in the week. The warm weather had the bass up and moving as some appeared to be beginning to spawn.

On the Angler side there were 87 fish weighed in for a total of 299 lbs.

Dave Schneider Jr. of Indianapolis won the event with a 5 fish limit that tipped the scales at 18.92 lbs. Dave earned $ 2,436.00 for his days work.

Second place finisher Steve Quiggins of Fortville Indiana also had a 5 fish limit weighing 16.88 lbs. Steve collected $1,522.00

Zach Grounds of Middletown was third with 4 nice bass totaling 16.58 lbs. He walked away with $914.00

Dave Schneider Sr. of Indianapolis was one good fish short of his son with 4 weighing 14.08 lbs. worth $609.00 and 4th place.

Mike Quinlin of Mooresville completed his five fish limit with 13.94 lbs. His check was for $365.00 and 5th place.

Calvin Davidson of Plainfield rounded out the 6 paying spots on the Angler side with 4 bass weighing 12.92 lbs. good for $244.00

Michael Ruhana missed out on a check by only 2 one hundredths of a pound as his 4 fish weighed 12.90 lbs. Michael received a nice American Rodsmith’s rod from A2O Boating Supplies and Pro Shop for his efforts.

Sheldon Roberts was presented the Big Bass check by his friend Clem Schmidt.

Sheldon’s 6.54 lb beauty earned him a cool $570.00

On the Co-Angler side it was Antwain Howard of Indianapolis leading the way.

Antwain’s 4 bass weighed 12.82 lbs earning him $1,218.00 This was Antwain’s first Federation event as he is new to the Indiana.

Dave Rector of Brazil weighed in 4 bass totaling 12.60 lbs good for second place and $761.00

Third place went to B.J. Butcher of Greentown his 11.20 lbs. was worth $457.00

Greg Smith of Ellettsville had 3 bass weighing in at 7.58 lbs. he was awarded a check for $304.00 for his fourth place effort.

Keith Whatley placed fifth with 2 bass weighing 7.44lbs. earning $183.00

Drew Russell of Louisville Kentucky brought in 1 nice bass weighing 6.12 lbs. That one fish was good for sixth place paying $122.00 and $290.00 in Big Bass money.

David Dede of Loveland Ohio just missed out on a check but won a nice rod from A2O Boating Supplies for the “first out of the money” award.

All of the anglers that weighed in fish will receive points toward earning a spot in the Forrest L. Wood Classic at the end of the year. That event will be held at Geist Reservoir October 6th and 7th. Thousands of dollars in cash and prizes will be awarded to the top Classic participants.

The results of the Angler and Co-Anglers divisions are listed below.

I along with my tournament crew want to thank everyone for their support as this was our first large tournament to conduct. It went smoothly and there were only a few issues. We could not pull this off without the support of a lot of friends, family and fellow anglers. We hope to see everyone at the Brookville tournament on May 13, 2012.

REMEMBER to Support the businesses who support us. Without them we would not be able to pay out 70 % at the ramp.

Thank You,

The Commission gave final adoption to the rule version below. However, the rule is not yet effective. The Attorney General has 45 days in which to review as to legality; the Governor has up to 30 days in which to approve; and subsequently, the rule is forwarded (if approved) to the Publisher (Legislative Services Agency) for filing. The rule amendments would then become effective 30 days after filing with the Publisher. The rule package will be submitted to the Attorney General tomorrow.

With this timeline, the rule amendments may be effective sometime in early July. Effective date could be earlier if the approving authorities do not use their full statutory time limit.

(March 20, 2012) – 94 of The Bass Federation’s best are packing their bags and heading to Flippin and Bull Shoals, Ark., next week for the 2012 TBF Federation National Championship, presented by The National Guard on Bull Shoals Lake. This will mark the first time in the federation’s 44 year history a championship event has been held in the backyard of the legendary founders of Ranger Boats, Forrest and Nina Wood, who got their start guiding on the white river and helped birth a multi-billion dollar bass fishing industry.

Anglers from seven TBF divisions competed locally in a no-entry fee 2011 TBF Division Championship to qualify for the event. From the division championships two anglers, the first place angler as the boater and the second place angler as the co-angler, from each TBF affiliated state federation in the U.S. and Canada advance to compete in the no-entry fee 2012 Federation National Championship. The field also contains the reigning Association of Collegiate Anglers (ACA) National Champions. All 94 championship anglers will face-off on Bull Shoals Lake out of Bull Shoals Lake boat dock, just down the road from the Ranger Boats plant, in the premier national contest of federation anglers.

The event is held in conjunction with an FLW Tour Major being held on Table Rock Lake out of Branson, Mo. The final day federation anglers will weigh-in alongside the FLW Tour Pros on the same stage in Branson, Mo. There are three official competition days, March 29-31. The entire field will compete Thursday and Friday with weigh-ins at Bull Shoals Lake boat dock in Bull Shoals, Ark. The final day the field will be cut to the top boater and co-angler from each of the seven TBF divisions. All 14 of those division champion anglers earn a berth in the 2012 BFL All-American. The final day is all about being crowned national champions with the best three-day accumulative weight live on the FLW Tour main stage in Branson, Mo. Both the national champion boater and co-angler will advance to the 2012 Forrest Wood Cup World Championship. The TBF National Champion boater earns the $100,000 TBF “Living the Dream” prize package, a unique and unequaled prize in the sport of fishing awarded each year to the champion boater. The package includes a cash prize, sponsor merchandise, guaranteed spots in the 2012 BFL All-American and the 2012 Forrest Wood Cup, fully paid entry fees as a tour pro in all the 2013 FLW Tour majors, travel expense stipends for each event, and use of a TBF “Living the Dream” wrapped Chevy truck and Ranger boat powered by Evinrude outboard for the full 2013 season.

All weigh-ins will be live streamed daily. First two days will be on bassfederation.com and the last day through FLW Live on flwoutdoors.com. All events and weigh-ins are free to the public.

“Everything is ready for their arrival. Ranger Boats has 47 brand new boats ready for the anglers to fish from as they do every year, the lake is in great shape, and if the fishing holds up we might just see all time federation weight records for the championship event,” TBF President, Robert Cartlidge, said. “From there it’s up to the anglers to see who can claim the titles, prizes and all the glory. Everyone here earned their spot; they are the very best of literally tens of thousands of TBF members. No matter where they finish at this year’s championship, pride in that fact is something that can never be taken away from them.

The Federation has never been simply about fishing for money, although the anglers will vie for their share of over 200,000 in cash and prizes,” Cartlidge continued. “The cash to be awarded is a nice bonus, however, the real prize is the TBF $100,000 “Living the Dream” prize package, two slots in the 2012 Forrest Wood Cup World Championship, and 14 spots in the 2012 BFL All-American. Not everyone wants to fish for a living…but every bass anglers in the world wants to try it one time and see how they stack up against the best professional anglers in the world on the FLW Tour. THAT is what the TBF Living the Dream package is all about. Next week, in Bull Shoals, Ark., one angler will claim it all.”

On a national average a TBF member spends less than $200 a year in total TBF dues and entry fees. The cost lets them advanced through their local state events to the Federation National Championship with the chance to advance there to the biggest events in the industry; in today’s economy, it’s a great deal for the money. TBF and its sponsor partners provide all 94 champion anglers entry fees to the official tournament, hotel rooms and cabins for the event, banquets, and amenities. Additionally, they’re provided use of a state of the art fully-rigged Ranger Boat.

The Bass Federation Inc., (TBF) is the oldest and largest, organized grassroots angling organization in America. TBF is owned by those it serves and is dedicated to the sport of fishing. TBF affiliated state federations and their member clubs conduct more than 20,000 fishing, youth and conservation events at the local level each year and have provided the foundation for the entire bass fishing industry for more than 40 years. For more information, visit bassfederation.com, or call 580.765.9031.

(Mar. 13, 2012) – The Bass Federation (TBF), in partnership with FLW Outdoors, and the Dubois County Visitors Center and Tourism Commission announced it will host the 2012 Student Angler Federation (SAF) Indiana High School Fishing State Championship. The event will be Sunday, June 3, on Patoka Lake launching out of the Newton-Stewart South Marina near Jasper, Ind. A unique element of this event is that it will follow the FLW Bass Fishing League event, held Saturday on Patoka Lake.

The championship is a two person team event for students in grades 9-12. Registration for anglers and their “coach,” who will provide the boat they compete in, is online at HighSchoolFishing.org. Check-in begins at 2:30pm EST on Saturday, June 2, at the FLW Outdoor’s BFL weigh-in trailer at the Newton-Stewart South Marina, with a mandatory rules briefing following the FLW BFL weigh-in. We highly encourage all teams to preregister online or by phone in advance to avoid late registration fees.

“The DuBois County Visitors Center is extremely pleased to be hosting the 2012 SAF Indiana High School Fishing State Championship at Patoka Lake,” Executive Director of Dubois County Visitors Center and Tourism Commission, Kevin Manley, commented. “This gives us a great opportunity to bring in families from across the state to see what a great area Dubois County really is. We’re looking forward to watching this event grow over the next few years.”

Students and parents can go to HighSchoolFishing.org for details on the Student Angler Federation (SAF) and to sign up. Cost is only $25/ year and includes full TBF and FLW Outdoors benefits, including access to the all-new FLW Outdoors Magazine e-Edition and insurance coverage for students and their club. The winning two-person team from each state championship will advance to an FLW Outdoors/TBF High School Fishing Conference Championship held in conjunction with a National Guard FLW College Fishing Conference Championship. Those winners will advance to the FLW Outdoors/TBF High School Fishing National Championship held in conjunction with the National Guard FLW College Fishing National Championship in the spring of 2013. All SAF members and state championship participants qualify for the largest event in high school fishing, the 2012 High School Fishing World Finals to compete for thousands of dollars in college scholarships and prizes. Each team that qualifies for a conference and/or national championship will receive a travel allowance to help offset expenses. The National Champions will also each receive a $5,000 scholarship to use at the university of their choice.

If you’re not an SAF member, there’s a $25/per angler fee, which includes full TBF/FLW Outdoors membership benefits for the year, as well as, free entry to ALL SAF sanctioned events!

Another unique feature of an SAF sanctioned event is the “angler testing” component. Anglers can take a free online test at HighSchoolFishing.org about boater safety, conservation and angler ethics, which makes them eligible for contingency awards at their state championship. “It’s an industry first by TBF and a tremendous way to emphasize the importance of education to these student anglers,” SAF Program Manager, Alex Craw, commented. “The Federation is driven by our desire to promote education through fishing and the testing component is designed to do exactly that. We also offer all TBF/SAF members 11 free online training courses in our member’s only online store with Faculty of Fishing’s angler advantage program. Put this package together with all the programs our affiliated state federations like the Indiana Bass Federation have to offer, and our partnership with FLW Outdoors, and the sky is the limit,” Craw continued. “These young anglers and their families have opportunities unlike anything the industry has ever seen.”

Event Details:

He is not a boat owner and does not fish a whole lot. He stated he makes a trip to Minnesota each year to meet his son who is in the Air Force and lives in North Dakota. They meet in Minnesota and fish for a week. He normally rents an aluminum boat to fish on the 3,000 acre lake. He thinks his son will be more excited than him when they get to meet this summer.

The IBF will make an annual award to IBF member clubs in the areas of Youth, Conservation, and Community Service. It addition it will also award one IBF member club the distinction of Club of the Year which shows the most overall positive influence on youth, conservation, and community service

Youth – The young people of today will be the legislatures, property owners, government officials (both elected and appointed), law enforcement officers, and voters of tomorrow. It is important that we demonstrate to them while they are young that fishing is a pleasurable and important activity that is worth promoting and protecting. We must help them develop the desire to protect the right to fish our public waters as well as to protect not only our public waters but our environment overall from pollution and misuse.

Because of that the IBF will award the club that has demonstrated through their projects, programs, activities, and support of IBF and TBF youth projects which encourages the youth ofIndianato participate in fishing activities, advocates the positive fishing experience and educates the youth not only on fishing techniques but also environmental stewardship.

Conservation – It is important that we do what we can to promote the preservation of our public waters, fishing habitat, and environment from overuse, pollution, invasive plant and animal species and natural disasters.

Because of that the IBF will award the club that best demonstrates through projects, programs, activities and support of IBF and TBF conservation projects which help preserve and protect our fishing habitats, public waters and environment as well as educating and promoting those endeavors to fellow fishing enthusiasts and the general public.

Public Service – It is important that we have a positive influence on our fellow man not only to improve our society and our community but to also promote bass fishing in a positive manner.

Because of that the IBF will award the club that best demonstrates through projects, programs, activities and support of IBF and TBF community service projects which will enhance our society and communities as well as uplift the human condition. The community service does not have to be related or pertain to fishing.

Club of the Year – The IBF will recognize the club that overall best promotes all three goals of promoting fishing to youth, promoting conservation, and providing community service. The club must demonstrate that it has addressed all three of these areas. It does not necessarily have to excel or have won an award in any one in of the three areas but it is a requirement that it makes a positive influence in each of the areas. The club selected for Club of the Year will be the club that overall has had the most positive influence on youth, conservation, and community service.

Selection Process

The award winners will be selected by a committee consisting of one director from each Zone, the Conservation Director, and the Youth Director. The IBF Vice President will be the chairman of the committee.

The decision will be based on material presented by the club. The material should outline the clubs activities and include any supporting material such as photos; newspaper articles or advertisements; registration forms; invoices; receipts; letters of appreciation or recommendation; project plans or outlines; applications to and approvals by city, county or state officials; or any other items which help document the activity or project.

The material must be submitted to the IBF board by the state meeting in December. The awards will be presented at the State meeting in February of the following year. The selection committee will review and present their decisions to the IBF Board at the February Board meeting.

Clubs that submit material should plan on attending the February meeting to accept awards in the event they are selected. It is suggested that as many club members attend as possible so they can all be honored for their accomplishments.

While it is not necessary that the material be presented in a specific manner or method and the selection committee will try to base their decisions on the actual projects and activities the neatness and organization of the submitted material could have some influence on the committee’s selection process.

Plaques will be awarded to the winning clubs and they will be recognized in the Indiana Bass News. Press releases will be provided by the IBF to local papers.

Registration Opens March 1

Ponca City, Okla. – Feb. 17, 2012 High School anglers near and far will unite in Russellville, Arkansas and Lake Dardanelle State Park, July 15-21, 2012 for the pinnacle event of high school bass fishing, the 2012 High School Fishing World Finals. Registration opens online at highschoolfishing.org on March 1.

Last year, over 600 attendees made up of high school anglers, family members and sponsors enjoyed the opening ceremonies to kick off a week-long family vacation with tens of thousands of dollars in scholarship prizes on the line.

“Russellville is extremely excited to host this tournament for the third year, and looking forward to another group of young people that love to fish,” Russellville Tourism Director, Christie Graham, stated. “Russellville hosts many tournaments each year, but enjoys getting to invest in young people’s lives that have a passion for the outdoor world of fishing. We are excited to see what growth this year will bring.”

High school teams are made up of any two high school anglers who have graduated the 8th grade but have not yet started college and who have a 2.0 GPA. All anglers must be Student Angler Federation members or join at the time of registration for only $25 a year. SAF membership comes with a full list of benefits, including no entry fees to any SAF event all year. Any high school team meeting these requirements may register and attend, even if they are home schooled. Teams bring their own boats and their own coaches/boat captains. Teams are required to have an adult coach/boat captain in their boat with them at all times. The coach who provides the boat must be a resident of the team’s home state/province or country, an immediate family member, or in very limited situations, a volunteer boat captain/coach may be provided by TBF*. (when/where available and only with advance arrangement) Anglers are not allowed to “hire” or “choose” a local coach and the tournament waters are off-limits, when designated, to all anglers and coaches so everyone starts fishing at the same time no matter where they live.

Events are scheduled all week starting with the first official practice day Sunday, July 15. Tuesday evening is the coaches/boat captain’s appreciation jackpot on a neighboring body of water for the coaches to get their fishing “fix” as well! Wednesday, July 18 is the official registration and opening ceremonies. Thursday, July 19 will bring the first official tournament day, with weigh-ins at Lake Dardanelle State Park, as teams from across North America will start their journey to become champions. All weigh-ins will be taped for television and be streamed live on the internet. All high school anglers will compete for the first two days. Then, the field will be cut on Saturday. The final day of competition not only will see the top teams go head to head with complete run of the lake, but also the rest of the field will be invited to fish a one of a kind consolation round event. There is no entry fee and the complete payout structure is in the form of prizes and scholarships! The 2012 High School Fishing World Championship team will each walk away with the grand prize of a four year, $5,000 per year, renewable scholarship to Bethel University in McKenzie Tenn., in addition to other prizes and some serious hardware!

“The High School Fishing World Finals is the largest tournament of its kind; it’s a low cost, family fun vacation with a full week of activities,” TBF National Youth Director, Mark Gintert, said. “We’re excited to return to Russellville and Lake Dardanelle State Park, which provide a perfect setting for this event. It’s centrally located right off I-40, a great fishery, and the cooperation we receive from our local partners is tremendous,” Gintert added.

“This event is more than just a tournament, it’s a great way to promote education through fishing,” TBF President, Robert Cartlidge, stated. “Our Student Anglers are required to have a 2.0 GPA and take a free test on angler ethics, boater safety and invasive species to participate. This highlights the importance of education and being good stewards of our waterways, habits TBF want to instill in the future of our sport,” Cartlidge continued. “Our Student Angler Federation is growing in record numbers with teams forming all across the country, and this event offers everyone a chance to fish in a world class event in a fun, family atmosphere.”

The Bass Federation Inc., (TBF) is the oldest and largest grassroots fishing organization in America. TBF is owned by those it serves and is dedicated to the sport of fishing. TBF annually conducts over 20,000 fishing, youth, and conservation events and has provided the foundation for the bass fishing industry for over 40 years.
