I felt it important that I address the current situation between ESPN/BASS and the Federations.
By now, I'm sure most of you have read the articles on BASSFAN.com or similar websites.
Please understand that the things you're reading are not set in stone and, for the most part, are nothing more than rumors. The only thing we know for sure is that BASS is – at this point in time – planning to have some type of grassroots fishing circuit that is supposed to start in the spring of 2004.
Personally, I feel they have a lot more work to do to make that happen. I don't think they've done enough homework to ensure that the circuit they want to create can get "out of the harbor" next spring.
In addition, there are some things on the BASSFAN website that are simply not true. At no time during the National Championship did Dean Kessel address the Presidents or make any statements to us.
Please be careful not to believe everything you read on these websites. Often they are no better than some of the other media outlets - trying to make news, rather than simply reporting it. It would be far better if they would supply us with the facts, and nothing else... and allow us to formulate our opinions without pushing their own.
Please understand that all the Federations have representatives that meet regularly and communicate with each other nearly every day. They are on top of this situation and are quick to communicate with the Presidents; at least once a week.
If I'm made aware of changes which may have a major impact on the Indiana Bass Federation, rest assured that I'll be using this website as a tool to inform everyone immediately.
You can be sure that the Board of Directors and I will keep the welfare of our Federation first in mind... and we will work hard to protect it. Too many folks have worked too many hours, for us to tolerate anything less!
Yours in service,
