Eight-two o f the Indiana Bass Federation (IBF) top bass anglers converged on Morse Reservoir and Geist Reservoir this past weekend (April 28-29) to try and qualify for the State Finals of the IBF. Fishing Morse on the first day, 74 of the 82 fishermen weighed in fish. A total of 206 bass were carried to the scales totaling 487.49 pounds (2.38 avg). The heaviest stringer was brought in by Don Holden of Maxwell IN, five bass weighing 19.69 pounds. Norbert Jaromin of Eaton, IN weighed in five bass totaling 18.24 pounds, and Walter Winn of Indianapolis weighed in five bass at 17.66. Dustin Riggs of New Castle IN had big bass with a 6.17 largemouth. Morse Reservoir continues to show itself as one of the premier bass fisheries in Central IN; a total of 13 anglers had limits.
Sunday, day two found the 82 contestants over at Geist Reservoir facing similar weather conditions as Saturday (cool 45-50 degree air temp, 15-25mph winds and gusty with periodic rain fall). A total of 133 bass were weighed and released with a total weight of 311.17 pounds (2.33avg). Walter Winn of P.O. Pluggers Bassmasters out of Indianapolis had the Big Bag with five bass weighing 19.40 pounds. Walter was overall winner of the two day Top 8 event with a two-day 10 fish weight of 37.06 pounds. Shane Rees of Fall Creek Valley Bassmasters carried 10 fish to the scales over the two days totaling 28.26 pounds and Norbert Jaromin of Fall Creek Valley Bassmasters rounded out the top 3 finishers with 8 fish hitting the scales at 25.06. David Replogle of Fishers had Big Bass at Geist with a 6.23 pound bass.
The top 11 anglers will move on to the IBF State Finals July 21 &22 on the Ohio River at Tanners Creek.
Fall Creek Valley Bassmasters tool top club honors with a total 2 day weight of 108 pounds, followed by Angling Addicts with 93.89 pounds and P.O. Pluggers 93.14.
